GSE shows how automated ink workflows support Brazil’s packaging and label printers

Exhibiting at ExpoPrint & ConverFlexo 2026, GSE will highlight ink dispensing and software solutions that help converters respond to tighter regulation, shorter runs and growing efficiency pressures.

Brazil’s label and packaging converters are facing operational and regulatory pressures that are making streamlined, automated workflows a necessity for staying competitive. Shorter production runs, just-in-time deliveries, tighter requirements around traceability and sustainability, and volatile raw material prices are all impacting day-to-day production.

In this environment, excessive manual intervention brings a high risk of waste, downtime and errors. This is particularly true in ink handling and colour preparation, where the non-linear nature of liquid flexo and gravure inks also makes reliable data-capture difficult. At ExpoPrint & ConverFlexo 2026, GSE will show how automated ink dispensing and digitalized ink workflows can help packaging and label converters improve efficiency, sustainability, compliance and colour consistency (stand K-18-060, Expo Center Norte, São Paulo, 24–28 March 2026).

Exhibiting together with its local distributor RLG, GSE will focus on its Colorsat ink dispensing technology and the GSE Ink manager software suite, providing video presentations of ink workflows along with interactive digital visualization tools at the stand.

Colorsat dispenser programme for accurate colour on-demand

GSE’s software-driven Colorsat gravimetric ink dispensing systems blend and dose accurate colours on demand using job-specific formulations. This helps converters achieve repeatable colour quality, shorter makeready times and reduced waste. In many applications, ink consumption can be reduced by up to 30%. By minimizing manual handling, Colorsat systems also support compliance with food safety and ink handling standards.

The modular design of Colorsat dispensers allows systems to be configured for different production volumes, ink sets and workspace constraints. Built from standardized components such as frames, pumps and valves, systems can be expanded or upgraded over time, allowing investment to follow changing production needs. Options including automated conveyors, return ink weigh stations and flexible container arrangements help reduce bottlenecks in high-volume environments.

Highlights of the fully automatic Colorsat dispenser range include:

  • Colorsat Compact, a high-output system for paper, board and flexible packaging applications, accommodating up to 34 components

  • Colorsat Switch, designed for label and narrow web printing, and optimised for fast preparation of 5 kg recipes
  • GSE will also present its manual Formula Checkweigh System (FCS) dispenser for less frequent spot colour requirements. The FCS system calculates and scales ink recipes to the required batch size and guides operators step by step through a controlled weighing process.

AR app eases visualization of ink logistics

A further feature of GSE’s presence at ExpoPrint & ConverFlexo 2026 will be its augmented reality (AR) app. Using a tablet at the stand, visitors can visualize how ink dispensing equipment would fit into their own production environments, position and scale systems virtually, and explore internal system functions. The AR experience supports a clearer understanding of complex ink logistics and helps teams evaluate the optimal configuration for their operations.

Software connects ink data across the workflow

One of the ongoing challenges for converters is collecting and sharing ink data in a faster-moving, more regulated and sustainability-focused value chain.

The GSE Ink manager (GIm) software suite is designed to digitalize ink-related processes across production. Built around the non-linear nature of spot colour workflows, GIm includes modules for formula handling, inventory control, press return reuse, batch traceability, reporting and automated purchasing. The software integrates with existing ERP and MIS systems, including SAP, allowing ink data to be shared and used more effectively across the organization.

Maarten Hummelen, marketing director at GSE, comments:

“In today’s label and packaging environment, errors, bottlenecks and poor visibility in ink workflows are costly obstacles to consistent colour quality. By combining automated ink dispensing with digital software, converters can reduce variation, respond faster and make better use of their ink data.”
